What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are clear, injectable gels made from high concentrations of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, especially in the skin. This powerful molecule, composed of long chains of sugar molecules, acts as a 'water-binding' agent that nourishes and protects tissues, providing essential hydration and structure to the skin.

How do hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections work?

When injected, dermal fillers effectively lift wrinkles and folds, revitalising your facial aesthetics. They can be customized to target specific areas, addressing individual concerns with precision. Hyaluronic acid fillers are remarkably versatile, suitable for a diverse range of aesthetic needs for men and women of all ages. Whether you’re looking to enhance your lips, contour your features, or restore lost volume, dermal fillers can help you achieve a more youthful and radiant appearance.

FAQs

  • When administered by qualified and experienced medical professionals, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are widely recognised as safe. At Lucy Aesthetics, we prioritise patient safety above all else. The safety of these fillers is reinforced by their FDA approval. The brands we use at Lucy Aesthetics are authentic, CE marked, scientifically backed, and evidence-based, ensuring both safety and predictable results for our patients.

  • As the dermal filler gradually breaks down, the body naturally metabolises the filler material.

  • Once the dermal filler results wear off, wrinkles and lines return to their previous appearance. It’s important to maintain your results by following your recommended treatment schedule.

  • Filler and botulinum toxin are both minimally invasive injectable cosmetic treatments designed to reduce signs of ageing, but they function differently. The primary distinction lies in their action. Dermal fillers work by filling in wrinkles and adding volume to the skin while botulinum toxin relaxes the underlying muscles to diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Redness, bruising, mild swelling and tenderness at the injection site are normal effects that are to be expected immediately following the treatment. There is a very low risk of infection at the injection site. Like any medical procedure there is always risks you should take into account. During your consultation any other potential side effects will be discussed in detail.

  • Although dermal filler is generally considered safe, it may not be appropriate for everyone. It is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, those with specific medical conditions, or those with allergies to any of the fillers components.
